Some great Aliens and hints of ancient mysteries. The planet is like a massive nested Mos Eisley bar with Alien cultures rubbing cheeks and creating friction. To my mind a bit long and rambly. Still it's a Banks Culture novel, and Banks on a bad day is the better than most of the competition at the top of their game.
